Valverde (town center): The capital of the island is situated on a slope at an altitude of 600 meters and is divided into 3 neighborhoods: Tesine, La Calle (in the center), and El Cabo. It has the particularity of being the only capital in the archipelago that is not located on the coast.

Charco Azul in the Golfo Valley: This is a pool created by nature itself and protected by a rocky outcrop. The transparency of the water, the smoothness of the pebbles at the bottom, and the mysterious air of the rocky cavity make bathing in its waters a magical experience.

Frontera Rural Park: This wide natural space combines the purest of nature with the different options available to the tourist.

Mirador de la Peña: This is the point where art, gastronomy, and the best views of the island meet. This viewpoint was designed by the Lanzarote artist César Manrique and offers a selection of aromas and flavors that, combined with incredible views, will be difficult for you to forget.

Garoé Tree: The symbol par excellence of the island. This tree represents the constant struggle of the aborigines and the inhabitants of El Hierro to achieve a constant supply of water, as it condenses the water from the trade winds and deposits it in the pools where the precious element could later be enjoyed.

La Restinga: A small fishing village known for its quiet atmosphere and its extraordinary seabeds. It is one of the favorite destinations for diving lovers and an ideal place to enjoy fresh fish facing the sea.

Potaje, puchero or rancho de papas: Potaje represents the most typical way of consuming vegetables. Rancho is a recipe based on chickpeas, thick noodles, potatoes, and meat that you can also find on other islands. Finally, the puchero would be like the Canarian version of the Spanish cocido; it is a dish composed of meats with corn cobs (piñas de millo), sweet potatoes, potatoes, legumes, and vegetables.

Meats: Rabbit, kid, or goat are some of the meats you can taste during your stay in El Hierro. If you do not like intense-flavored meat, it is better to choose rabbit, but do not fail to taste the other two delicacies. They are usually accompanied by potatoes.

Herreño cheese: It is one of the jewels of the island's gastronomy. In fact, it is the base of some of the preparations of its traditional cuisine such as cheese broth or quesadilla. Goat, sheep, or cow milk is the raw material with which they produce their excellent cheeses. It is essential to try it grilled.

Quesadillas: It is a typical sweet of the island and is composed of a base of Herreño cheese to which salt, eggs, flour, sugar, lemon zest, a bit of cinnamon, and a pinch of aniseed (matalahúva) are added, to then bake everything together.

El Hierro wines: Cultivated in volcanic lands and under unique conditions, they offer very particular flavors and are increasingly recognized within and outside the Canaries.

The capital of the island is Valverde, a curious capital located in the interior and not by the sea, as happens in most of the Canary Islands. El Hierro has approximately 11,000 inhabitants and an area of about 278 square kilometers, which allows you to travel around it easily by car. The climate is mild throughout the year, with pleasant temperatures in both summer and winter, making the island an ideal destination at any time.
