Banjul is situated on St. Mary’s Island, where the River Gambia flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The island is connected to the continent by ferries and several bridges. The capital of The Gambia is a small, charming port city full of history and interesting colonial buildings.

Surrounded by wild tropical beaches with spectacular flora and fauna, Banjul has several local tourist agencies which organize safaris and tours through the mangrove swamps of the River Gambia. A different way to approach the villages of The Gambia and get to know their traditions.

The colourful African lifestyle and the evident joyfulness of the people welcome the visitors to Banjul. In its handcraft markets frequent concerts with typical music take place. The most famous of these is the Albert Market.
